The Grhyasūtra of the Vādhūla school of the Black Yajurveda has been unknown in the learned world... more The Grhyasūtra of the Vādhūla school of the Black Yajurveda has been unknown in the learned world of the Vedic studies. In order to take a first step to prepare a critical edition of Vādhūla-Grhyasūtra (VādhGS), this paper intends to make a preliminary examination of all its manuscripts, and to elucidate its relationship with other Grhyasūtras including that of theĀgniveśya school, which has been surmised to be a sister school of the Vādhūla school. As far as the present manuscripts show, the VādhGS is a rather unique Grhyasūtra in its limited contents, its peculiar arrangement of the rites which also differs between the mss., and its heterogeneous text containing even Brāhman . a-like passages.
