Jason G. Karlin is an Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies at the University of Tokyo, where he teaches classes in gender and media studies. He is the co-editor of "Idols and Celebrity in Japanese Media Culture," which is forthcoming from Palgrave Macmillan in early 2012.

The Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies at the University of Tokyo now offers a Master's/Doctoral Degree Program: "Information, Technology, and Society in Asia" (ITASIA) with all courses taught entirely in English.

Professor Karlin is currently researching celebrity and gender representation in Japanese television, women's magazines, and social media.
